I assume you are using some flavor of nuke (CPG Nuke user myself).
I was wondering if you would consider using the Reviews module instead of the forum to present Korean learning material to users.
People can then rate the different books/tapes/online resources - both the original reviewer and other users. People can also comment on the reviews.
It would be easier to find top rated material, and that should be a goal in itself, no?
Also, although that might involve a lot of moderation, it would be very nice to have some kind of classification system in place, so that you'd know if any given resource was suited to your level. Preferably a lot more finely meshed than simply Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.
Let's say (well, actually, this [b:dee4aff3da]is[/b:dee4aff3da] my situation right now) that I want to make a list of learning material that would cover every step of the way from complete beginner to near-fluent. How do I do that?
the forum is more useful...and we have those other secrtions anyway...if you look...there is also a review topic section..where people can discuss learning material which they have bought...

Well, yeah, I saw the reviews section of the forum, and I didn't suggest getting rid of the forum altogether .
*But* I disagree that the forum is more useful for this particular use.
First of all, threads in the forum are sorted by the date of its most recent post. So if there is a really good book that nobody has discussed in the last weeks, you would have to really dig in to even find it.
Also, if you are looking for comments on a particular book that you are considering buying, it is impossible unless you do a forum search.
Whereas in the Reviews module, all books (and other material) are sorted both alphabetically (so you can find a particular book you already know about) and as top rated (so you can find the best books no matter how long ago it was reviewed), in addition to the most recent reviews.
Everybody wins!
The forum is good for what forums were designed to do: discuss things.
But for static, categorized information, other modules are better.
You wouldn't put the Korean classes and Encyclopedia in the forum, would you??
Besides, as I said, people can still discuss the books by leaving a comment on the original review + their own rating if they've used it, too.

[quote:3898f80994="Jon"]that true...but its also...all about how much time..is required to compile the directory of book reviews....[/quote:3898f80994]
Activating the module itself in your nuke administration takes a few seconds.
From then on, it's up to the users of the site to put reviews there - in the same way as it's up to the users to put reviews in the forum right now.
Of course, if you want all the books that are in the forum now moved to the reviews module, that would take an hour or two, I suppose.
