Alright, once again let me introduce myself. My name is Brian and no I am not Korean. However, I am a Korean linguist, and as of recently I have started the initial development of a line of Korean language learning products. Our first product will be a series of DVDs geared toward teenagers and adults that at the beginner level of learning Korean.

I'm here to find out what people are looking for to help them learn Korean better. Since there seems to be a lot of people here that are at the beginner lever, I would really like some feedback on your language learning methods if you have developed any.

This is the basic idea that we are going to work with in our series: a DVD series that starts with an introduction to hangul (the written language) and functional conversations. Our goal is to have our viewers be able to start with no Korean language background and finish with the ability to function completely in Korea. We will cover situations such as: conversations at Inchun International Airport, renting a car, bargining at DongDaeMun and NamDaeMun markets, renting a hotel room, exchanging money, asking for and recieving directions to a location, and conversations about Korean culture.

Remember this is just a beginning to development so it may be 6 months or so before we will have the product available for sale, but you all can make a difference in the development. We want to know what you would like to learn and how to better present it to you.

Questions can be sent to bzabler@hotmail.com (that is also my MSN name) or try to catch me online if you would like.

Thanks so much,
Brian

It is obvious that people need to start with the alphabet and basic words but I think the hardest thing is Pronounciation. I am Japanese and when learning I noticed that it is hard to tell the differnce between Ba and Pa Da Ta and Ga and ka sounds in the Korean language.. I am unsure if these can be identified in the DVD you are talking about but I think that it would be benifitial for beginners to understand those differences.

The way i was able to overcome this, well, the way i was taught anyway, is by holding a pience of tissue in front of your mouth when you do the Pa's and Ta's and such, when you do the others it shouldn't move, but when you do the asperated ones, the tissue should move. That way you can actually see if you are saying it right. Obviously when you speak you don't asperate it that much, but even though they over exaggerate at the first, it mellows out after they have been learning for a while. Hope this helps...oh, and lots of repetition.
