I myself have always been interested in the Asian cultures. Studied it in University, travelled extensively, from the Korean peninsula to the Indonesian archipelago.
I have a Korean wife who is as Canadian as you can get eh! and two wonderful half-er kids and the best relationships I develop with students are with Asian kids.
In other words, I too have an inexplicable predilection toward all things Asian.
This however leads to the question of: Is there any truth to the urban legend of the “Rice King”?
A sensitive issue amongst the Asian community, and a hot topic on many bulletin boards. Many Asian males feel that this fascination some Caucasian males have with Asia is nothing more than some weird predatory ploy to date or get with Asian females. Definatly true in some cases but...?
What do you think? |

I dont know if i would think of myself as far as many of you did, about saying that you think of yourself similar to how some people say they should have been born as the opposite gender, but i do share some similarities. I was first interested in anime around 7th grade or so (that was about 5 years ago)... wait... it was asian porn... like 5th or 6th grade or something, lol. My friends showed me some jap girl in his porno... her ass was sooo damn nice. I was sorta brought up in a prejudice family... due to WW2 and probably the Cold War as well. But i didnt really accept that she was hot until my friend said she was hot.
At that point, i have been interested in many things asian... maybe it was because of the difference in culture. Similar to how some people are interested heavily in black culture and such.
My interest for chinese and korean soon came. As i watched more jackie chan and jet li movies, my interests in chinese grew... but often the chinese women arent exactly the best looking, although there are some very pretty ones, not to get me wrong. Since i met my gf, i have been fascinated about korean culture as well.
Im not sure what you mean by "rice king"... but i think that its all about interests and stuff... nothing weird going on in our minds.. just like... one is interested in which he knows little about. I dont know about you all... but in my area, there arent many asians. Out of like 1700 at my school, there are only like 150 or so asians. Thinking back to 5th grade... i can only remember one in the entire 5th grade, lol. There was probably more, but i can hardly remember. Its only because i thought that girl was... cute. So yea... thats my opinion. |

No disrespect but it sounds to me that you are in love with an image more than a culture. This attraction would be compounded by the fact you don’t have all that many Asian people where you live, so Asians are more mysterious or perhaps even exotic to you.
We all love Jacky but he is not the embodiment of Asian culture he is a Pop culture Icon with all the substance and true cultural value of your very own Brittany Spears.
