나랏말싸미 듕귁에 달아 문자와로 서르 사맛디 아니할쎄
이런 젼차로 어린 백셩이 니르고져 홇베이셔도
마참내 제 뜨들 시러펴디 몯핧 노미하니라
내 이랄 윙하야 어엿비너겨 새로 스믈 여듧 짜랄 맹가노니
사람마다 해여 수비니겨 날로 쑤메 뼌한킈 하고져 할따라미니라

우리 나라(조선)의 언어가 중국과 달라서 문자가 서로 통하지 않는다.
이런 이유로 어리석은 백성이 말하고 싶은 것이 있어도
마침내 자신의 뜻을 알리지 못하는 사람이 많다.
내가 이것을 불쌍하게 생각해서 새롭게 스물 여덟 글자를 만들었다.
모든 사람들이 쉽게 익혀서 날마다 편하게 사용하도록 하기 위함이다.

The language of our country is different from the China,
we can hardly communicate with each other with letters,
for these reasons, foolish people,
even when they want to say something with letters,
There are many people who can hardly explain their meanings.
As I felt sorry for this, I'm making twenty eight new letters,
only wish people would learn them easily and use it comfortably every day.
