Does Korea have video games? I would think they do as its entertainment and I'd think everyone loves em but where can you buy korean version of video games preferably for the DS since its region free. Also anyone know of any sites where you can buy books in korean, and I would think "good" books I've looked on hanbooks.com and the original korean books don't look all that great some of them maybe, but nothing really catched my attention. I go on yesasia.com as well but they only have DVDs and Music CDs. Hanbooks has magazines as well in korean as well but does anyone know of a site you can actually buy single korean magazines? I want these to help me learn korean once my level is high enough which...won't be anytime soon but I like to prepare for stuff before things happen. Thanks
I live in Seoul and will go hunting for stuff if you give me a list. Of course, I'll expect a commission. As for video games, I go to Yongsan Electronics Market a lot (I was just there yesterday), and this is my take on it:
Most of the console games here in Korea are merely translations of Japanese games. Therefore, you probably won't get much original content by buying Korean games for your DS that you couldn't have gotten otherwise. I know that Korea has developed a couple of PS2 games (Pump It Up, a dancing game with lots of licensed K-pop and Magna Carta [an RPG]), but those are all available in English. I realize that you're practicing your Korean, but wouldn't it be more interesting to play a game that is both in Korean AND has never been released in another language?
Because of this, I recommend Korean PC games. Magna Carta (the original) is a very famous Korean PC RPG and has never been translated to another language. I also have another on-hand called "Narsillion" there are a ton of Korean-developed PC games (lots of RPGs) that are only available in Korean.
As for books, well, my literacy level isn't high enough yet (or if it is, it just became that way recently, and I'm not aware yet). However, tell me the name of a book and I'll find it for you. The same goes for most other Korean goods.
Well, I was more so thinking of getting like an internet website address where they sell video games in korean, books and all that. I wouldnt care that much if something was translated from japanese or could be converted back and forth from japanese and korean because I'm studying japanese right now as well, been doing that for about a year. My level isn't any where near being able to play or read games/book/movies/music and wut not, I just wanted something i could keep for future use. Theres plenty of japanese stuff all over the net so i had no problem finding it since theres plenty of otaku as they say and many more wanting to learn it but, with korean theres less demand it seems and thus isnt easy to find stuff in its language. korean or english site would be fine I wouldn't care either way just somewhere I can get the needed materials to improve my level. You wouldn't need to go hunting just if you know of some websites with such materials I'd like to know of them if you don't mind. Thanks
