'Silmido' Ranks 4th in Japan's Box Office on Debut Week
South Korean blockbuster 'Silmido' is off to a promising start in Japan.
On its debut weekend, 'Silmido' ranked fourth in Japanese box office sales.
According to Eiga, a Japanese movie site, 'Silmido' was the fourth-most popular film. The Japanese movie 'Shouting for Love at the Center of the World' was atop last weekend's chart, followed by second-ranked 'The Day After Tomorrow' and third-ranked 'Troy,' both Hollywood blockbusters.
'Silmido's' overseas distributor Cinema Service says the Korean thriller performed relatively well considering that it is being screened on 250 theaters, while Hollywood blockbusters are playing at more than 600 locations.
'Silmido' is based on a true story about a group of South Korean prisoners who were trained to assassinate the late North Korean leader Kim Il-sung in the late 1960s.
