the other day my friends and i were in the car on the way home when my friend's friend, who is korean, asked me if i was indonesian. "No," i replied, to which he quickly responded, "No, i was asking *****" [my indonesian friend, whose name i will leave blank for privacy]. at that we all laughed, as it was obvious he was asking me. "So where are you from?" he then asked me. "Korea" my two friends replied quickly. "She's Korean." "South Korea," one of them added. "진짜?" [chin jja = Korean for "really"] he asked, surprised, half believing, half disbelieving. "진짜" [really] i replied.

some minutes later:
my friend's friend: "So where are you from, really?"
me: "한국인이에요!" [han guk in i e yo = i'm korean] i exclaimed, laughing.
my friend's friend: "OK, i won't ask anymore..."
***
as my friends dropped me off:
my friend's friend: "안녕" [an nyeong = good bye]
me: "잘 자" [chal ja = good night]
my friend's friend [to my friends, amazed]: "Wow! she really is korean!!!"
me: "yeah, i told you, didn't you believe me?!?!"
[my friends laughed so hard afterwards]
[for the record, i'm not korean; although i'm asian, i don't look korean either]
MORAL OF THE STORY: IF YOU DON'T GIVE UP LEARNING KOREAN, YOU CAN AT LEAST SOUND KOREAN, EVEN IF YOU DON'T LOOK KOREAN!!! hehehe |
